BQ24250: Is it possible to configure a Cboot with 2 capacitors?

Part Number: BQ24250

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering Cboot of BQ24250 and has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

I have a question about the external capacitor attached to the BOOT pin of BQ24250.

There is specification of 0.033 uF on data sheet P.7.

However, it is necessary to respond with different capacity due to recent shortage of capacitors.

I am thinking, when the configuration is 0.022 uF + 0.01 uF = 0.032 uF, there are some difference in capacity and number.

Is it possble to use?

Is there a possibility of affecting the operation?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Shinichi,

Although we have never tested such a configuration, I see no reason why having 2 capacitors in parallel would not function the same as 1 capacitor of same capacitance value. As a fail safe, you might recommend that they add a zero ohm resistor in series with those capacitors. That way, if the lowered equivalent ESR of 2 capacitors in parallel is a problem, then we can add some resistance in series to correct.
  • Hi Jeff,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand it might be no problem to use 2 capacitor in pararell as 1 capacitor, just to be safe, it should be connected zero ohm resistor with each capacitor.

I'll share this with the customer.

    I appreciate your great help.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
