TPS63050: Inquiry

Part Number: TPS63050

Hi,

We are students at UOIT working on our capstone project and require a power management chip (DC- DC Buck Boost Converter) to regulate the DC voltage coming out of photo voltaic cell. We found TPS63050 as one of our options but were not sure about controlling the output current which will be fed to a battery that requires 2A input current.I was wondering if you would be able to assist us in determining if the current can be controlled to 2A from TPS63050 with an output voltage of 5V. Also, if there is any other chip which can meet our requirements.
Thank you.
  • Hi Aryan,

If I understood correctly, you want to charge a battery, which is directly connected to the output, with constant 2 A current? TPS63050 does not have a current control on the output, the current is determined by the load. There is only current limiting.

What type of battery is it, and do you plan to connect it directly to the output of TPS63050, without an intermediate battery charger circuit?

    Best regards,
    Milos
  • Hi Aryan,

We haven’t heard back so we're assuming you were able to resolve your issue. If not, please take a look at battery charger ICs, some of the devices are at the same time suitable for energy harvesting from PV cells :
