TPS7B82-Q1: Dropout voltage at 50mA

Part Number: TPS7B82-Q1

Hi,

We got a question from the customer about TPS7B82-Q1.
Could you help us?

[Question]
How much is the maximum dropout voltage at 50mA? They want to keep 5V output voltage at 5.3V input voltage condition. Can the IC meet thier requirement?

 P/N: TPS7B8250-Q1
 Iout=50mA
 Tj=-40~150C

  • Hi Tateo,

    The maximum dropout can be estimated using the information in the Electrical Characteristics table. The maximum Rds,on for the pass element of this regulator with 5-V output is seen when Iout = 100 mA or when Iout = 200 mA:

    The dropout at 50 mA can be calculated using Ohm's law. Rds,on stays constant regardless of load current.

    Rds,on = Vdo@100 mA / 100 mA = Vdo@50 mA / 50 mA

    Vdo@50 mA = Vdo@100 mA / 100 mA * 50 mA = 175 mV

    Since this is lower than the customer's headroom (Vout - Vin = 300 mV), the TPS7B82-Q1 would be suitable for their application based on the dropout requirement.

    Thanks,

    Gerard
