Hi,

I want to protect my circuit with reverse polarity.

I see that the LM74610 could suit for my purposes. I have some doubts I hope you can clarify:

From evaluation board I see the device could prevent reverse polarity during negative spike when it's working (dinamically). Can it prevent reverse polarity at the begininng when the operator connect the input power supply in a wrong way (exchanging + with -) ? I suppose yes.
My input power supply comes form a 12V battery. Should I use the TVS diodes ? I have no specification to respect but just reverse polarity.

Hi Nico,

Yes, LM74610 can protect reverse polarity at the beginning as well. Because, at the begining, even though the device is off, body diode of external MOSFET will block the reverse input applied from passing further into the system.

Yes, you would need TVS to protect the downstream circuits.
Please refer to TI design on reverse battery protection "www.ti.com/.../TIDA-01179".

thnks for your reply,

from the link : Tvs protect for surges at positive 26v and negative 14v. Is there any reason? Should I use the same TVS ? Or it depends about my input power (12Volt battery).

Hello Nico,

The voltage rating of TVS is decided by the standard for transient voltage compliance. The TI-Design (TODA-00179) is designed to comply with ISO 7637-2:2004 standard for load dump and similar transients.
