BQ29200: VDD Maximum rating

Part Number: BQ29200

Hi.

My goal here is to implement the IC in a circuit using 12V as it's charging voltage.

To my understanding of the datasheet, the IC itself does not draw any significant amount of current from whatever source.

Then, is it safe to use a simple voltage divider around 100ks to cut the voltage to the recomended walue of the IC?(<10V)

Will it not cause any significant inefficiency, reagarding the fact the battery back is 2600mAh in it's capacity.

Thank You.

  • Hi Haemin,
The function of the bq29200 is to monitor the cells for overvoltage and balance the 2 cells. Its supply current is low and is normally provided by the connected cells as shown in the data sheet.
Note that during operation when balancing the top cell current is drawn from VDD, 100k for the supply filter resistor RVD would not be suitable for operation of the device or allow operation of this function.
Your charger should provide the conversion from 12V to the battery voltage.
