TPS563208: No-load current is too large

Part Number: TPS563208
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS563201

Hi TI:

We are debugging TPS563208, we found that the current consumption is about 20mA without load.

After the inductor is changed from the recommended 2.2uH to 3.3uH, the no-load current is 9.5mA. Why is the no-load current so large? ? ?

Is this normal with this part?

input 7.6V ,  output 3.3V

Can you test the TI‘s TPS563208 development board, what is the current consumption without the load???

  • Hi,

TPS5563208 operate at Force CCM at light load, there is consumption on the Rdson, DCR and resistance of PCB and switch loss, it is reasonable. If you increase the inductance, the ripple current of inductor is small, it is useful for increasing the efficiency.
If you want to increase the efficiency, TPS563201 is a good choice, it operates at Eco-mode at light load.

  • Hi :

ok,I will apply for samples from our suppliers for testing.

    thanks.

  • Hi,

What is the end equipment? Why dose the customer care about the consumption at light load.

  • Hi,

It is a consumer electronics with battery,tps563208 is used to supply power to the WIFI/BT module.

When the machine is turned off, the power of the WIFI/BT module always exists for BT wake-up host function. The BT wake-up function consumes only 6mA. At this time, the leakage current of the tps563208 power supply section is nearly 20mA.Therefore, The battery is discharged very fast.
