LMG5200: Current limitation

Part Number: LMG5200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00909, LMG1205, LMG1210

TIDA-00909 uses the LMG5200 with a maximum current of 10A.  Would it be reasonable to parallel two LMG5200s to deliver 20A?  Are the characteristics of the LMG5200 such that they will equally share the current when paralleled?

  • Hello David,

Yes, you can parallel two LMG5200. However, due to the parameter variation, I would not recommend you to use two for 20A, since the current on one power stage may exceed 10A when there is no margin. I suggest you to have some margin considering the uneven current sharing.

    Thanks and regards,

  • If the LMG5200 is limited to 10A, are there similar GaN devices with higher current ratings?
  • Hello David,

LMG5200 is the only integrated power stage that we have with GaN FETs and driver integrated together. However, I would recommend that you look into EPC GaN FETs, and they provides a wide range of voltage/current ratings. You can pair them with TI's GaN driver such as LMG1210, or LMG1205.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks and regards,
