REF5025: the power consumption of the REF5025 and OPA735

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: REF5025, OPA735, OPA187, REF3425

hello sir,

I want to used ref5025 and OPA735 for my ADC circuit to get +2.5V and -2.5V for the voltage reference. But I found the current of the circuit is too big. the total current of power supply is 15mA, and the power consumption is 51mw in no load, can you give me some advice to design the circuit?

Best regards!
  • Hi Kevin,

Look at Chapter 1, Section 3 & 4 of this reference book (www.ti.com/.../slyc147.pdf). The section goes over many ways to produce negative voltage reference with our series vrefs.

  • Hi Ethan,
thanks for your reply so quickly,i know there are many way to get the negative voltage, but most of the means is used ref50XX and one Operator amplifier,But for my design,I think the OPA735 is suit for my design. So i want to know is there anyway to reduce the power consumption the circuit? I found the OPA187 is low power operator amplifier,do you think if I replace the OPA735 to opa187,does the total power consumption of the circuit will be reduce?
    best regards!

  • Hi Kevin,

This is something to ask the amplifier team, but just based on comparing quiescent current, the OPA187 will save you power consumption. We also have a new generation series reference that has better drift for significantly lower power called the REF3425. I would suggest changing to two of these devices for lower power consumption.

    Thanks,

    Ethan
