UCC24636: possible to use for output voltage Vout = 31V ?

Part Number: UCC24636
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC24624

Dear Team,

our customer uses the UCC24636 for an industrial battery charger. The first version had an output voltage of 11-15.6V, so no problem.

In another project they are looking for a SR controller for 22-31V.

> Any chance to use the UCC24636 for the higher output voltage?

Does it have a similar internal clamp as the UCC24624 that can be used with an external resistor of 750Ohm?

Thanks and best regards
Martin

  • Hi Martin,

Thanks for your interest in UCC24636. The AbsMax rating for the VDD pin is 30V and does not have the same internal clamp of UCC24624 unfortunately. One possibility is to use an external circuit to limit the max voltage applied to the VDD pin but I would like to discuss the viability of this approach with systems engineering first. Please let me get back to you on this.

  • Hi Martin,

You could a resistor + zener to clamp the maximum voltage on the VDD pin. You will also want to make sure the VPC and VSC pins do not exceed their max voltage rating as well (abs max rating of 4.5V for both pins)

Another option is to have an additional bias winding to supply bias power to the controller. This would allow the driver to run a bit more efficiently than the above solution.

I'm not sure if your customer is planning to use low side or high side rectification but please share this SR controller configuration guide with them:
