Part Number: TPS61165

Hi

I need TPS61165 to drive LCD back-light which is having 21V forward voltage and 40mA forward current. So i have to select the Rset as per 40mA??
If i select 0.57ohm then it will regulated current of 350mA always or is it depend on the current required by LCD back-light?

  • Hi Sagar,
For TPS61165, the Rset determained the maximum output current, the real output current depends on the Rset value and PWM duty cycle applyed on CTRL pin. For your application, if your maximum output current is 40mA, you need to choose 5ohm resistor, then you can change the PWM duty cycle to change the output current from 0A to 40mA.

    Hi Sean
    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Its means if i selected 0.57 ohm resistor then current will vary from 0 to 350mA but we can adjust to our requirement(40-50mA) by giving PWM signal on CTRL pins. Is my understanding correct?

    Hi Sagar,
Sure, your understand is totally right . But uaually we choose the Rset with the maximum current, for your application, if you don't need 350mA, I suggest you choose the right resistor for your application.
