LP3878-ADJ: Input voltage range (VIN-MAX)

Part Number: LP3878-ADJ
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP3878, LP3879,

Hello,

LP3878 (adjustable version) and LP3879 (fixed versions) seem to be very similar devices.

However, the LP3878 shows VIN up to 16V (understand Working voltage), while LP3879 shows VIN up to only 6V, with 16V only as "Absolute Maximum".

This is somewhat confusing.

What is the safe continuous working VIN range ?

  • Hi Stefan,

While the two devices are similar, they do have different operating voltage ranges. The operating voltage range is the input range where the regulator is designed, tested, and characterized to operate. The absolute maximum voltage range is a stress test only and is not intended for sustained operation.

For LP3878-ADJ the recommended operating input voltage range is 2.5 V to 16 V while the recommended operating input voltage range for LP3879 is 2.5 V to 6 V.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
