BQ35100EVM-795: EV2300 and BQ35100EVM-795 board not recognized under BQ Studio

Part Number: BQ35100EVM-795
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ35100, , BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Hello,

We have implanted BQ35100 on a board for LiMnO2 battery gauging (CR2 and CR123A).

The board is operational but the value recorded with BQ35100 do not seem correct.

So we have purchased BQ35100EVM-795 and EV2300 to run separate tests using BQ Studio.

We have several problems:

1. After installation of BQ Studio, you give a procedure for installing the specific driver of EV2300 in the document SLUUBH7.pdf (''bq35100EVM-795 Evaluation Module'').

''If the EV2300 is connected, wait until the system prompt New Hardware Found appears.
Choose Select Location Manually, and use the Browse button to point to subdirectory TIUSBWin2K-XP-1.''

We could not locate this subdirectory and the installation finished without proper installation of the driver.

As a result the EVM2300 is seen as ''unknown peripheral'' in Windows Peripheral Manager.

=> Where can we find the driver and can it be installed through the peripheral Manager?

 2. When starting BQ Studio and selecting ''Gauge'' and then ''0100-1-02_bq35100.bqz'', a window opens (see picture) saying that the device is not compatible with the application.

Thanks for any help to complete installation of EV2300 and to start using our EVB.

Software versions:

    - Windows version: Windows 10 64-bit

    - Battery Management Studio ( bqStudio ) Version : 1.3.86 Build Date : June 8, 2018

Best regards,

Olivier

  • Hi Olivier,
Pls try installing the driver from the link below:
    e2e.ti.com/.../458983

then try updating the firmware on the device using the link below:

Also, pls watch the video below:

  • Hi Onyx,

    Thank you for your response.
This solved my installation problem for the EV2300 interface and for the BQ35100 EVB.

I could run BQ Studio and run the calibration of the IC.
For the specific use with LiMnO2 batteries, I am following document ‘’Using the bq35100 with Li-Primary Based Applications”.
I entered the specific parameters of the battery in the ‘’Gas Gauging’’ page of the ‘’Data Memory’’ Tab.

Now my problem is that at the end of the configuration step, the SOH register displays ‘’0’’ in the Register Tab.
Whatever number of On/Off cycling on the ‘’GE’’ pin, it never displays 100% or any other value.
Would you have any idea of what I am doing wrong?
(The values read for the voltage and for the temprerature are OK)

I would have an additional question: would you recommend to calibrate each board on production line?

    With my best regards,
    Olivier
  • Hi Olivier

Did you configure the device for the correct no of cells in series and did you program the correct chem id for your batteries?/

    thanks

    Onyx

  • Hi Onyx,

    I think so.
In ''Data Memory" / ''Gas Gauging'' tab, I entered "1" for the number of cells.
In Chemistry, I selected 0631 which is the closer to the cell I am using currently (LiMnO2 - CR2)

When I read the memory, the parameters are correct except ''Stat of Health" which is set to 0.

  • Hi Oliver
Can you send a screen shot of your bqstudio screen and can you attach a log file extracted from bqstudio as well as your gg file. What voltages does the gauge measure?
    thanks
    Onyx
  • Hi Onyx,

Attached are the screen shots of BQ Studio configurations.

I would like to add that the main configuration is retained, but the mode of operation (SOH) is always reset to Accumulation ([GMSEL1:0]=00)

With regards the log file, I am currently unable to log the battery state.

When I click on ''Start Log'', I can create a log file, but it also creates a file called ''Test_LiMnO2_Gene.log.err'' in the directory and both files are empty.

In the same way when I want to extract a .gg file from BQ studio, the following error message is displayed:

''Error = Failed to execute runnable (org.eclipse.SWTException: Widget is disposed)

The voltage measured on BQ Studio is correct. When I attached a power supply in place of the battery, I check correct reading down to 2V. (I attached separate 3.3V power supply to REGIN pin).

    Best regards,

    Olivier

  • Hi Olivier

There are a few things wrong from your screen snippet.

-For starters you are using an older firmware version on the ev2300. It shows you are using 3.1c. You should be using 3.1r or 3.1m.

Pls update the firmware on the device accordingly from the attachment below:

    6278.EV23000_876FW Updater.zip

-secondly, your device appears to be sealed. sec1 and sec0 flags are set. They ought to be clear for you to be able to make modfications of any parameter to df.

-I had requested extracting a gg file to verify if the changes you made to the device actually occured. I do not see an attachement.

Can you pls address these points and let me know if you still run into issues.

    thanks

    Onyx

  • Hi Onyx,

    - Firmware update:
My undestanding is that updating the firmware of the EV2300 requires a second EV2300 interface.
I just bought the EVKIT for test purpose, and I do not have any other EV2300 available.
Is there any other solution to update firmware other than through a second EV2300?
I have just noticed that the EV2300 is not supported for new designs and is replaced by EV2400.
I purchased it in emergency and following the application note of BQ35100.

    - Component protection:
When updating the parameters, I do force ''UNSEAL'' and ''UNSEAL FULL ACCESS''
The picture were taken during gauge monitoring.
All parameters seem to be stored axcept the mode of operation that always returns to default.

    - With regards the extraction of the gg file, I replied to you.
I am unable to generate the file (''Error = Failed to execute runnable (org.eclipse.SWTException: Widget is disposed)'')
Nor I am able to get a graph : when I start a graph I the file remains empty

    With my best regards,
    Olivier
  • Hi Olivier
We do not manufacture the ev2300 any more as that device is now obsolete. Are you able to acquire an ev2400 . I sent you a friend request so we take this offline.

    thanks
