Soft over-current of UCC28019A

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28019A

We have questions about soft over-current of UCC28019A.

Question 1.

Please tell us the way to set threshold of over current.

Question 2.

How does IC operate when this IC detects over current?

shout down? decreasing current? Keeping  constant current?

Best regards,

Takahiro Nishizawa

  • Hello Takahiro Nishizawa
The UCC28019A enters a soft over current limit when the voltage on the ISENSE pin is a nominal - 0.73V.
So you select your sense resistor based on the value your requirement is for this soft over current.
When this value is reached the controller pulls down on the VCOMP level so the output voltage is reduced
This has the effect of reducing the output voltage as the duty cycle of the GATE signal is reduced.
It does not shut down the ic or reduce the output current. It reduces the output voltage
