LMR36015-Q1: Reverse current capability

Part Number: LMR36015-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR36015

Hi Team,

In the case that SW voltage is higher than Vin accidentally(like reverse connection), How much current can LMR36015 withstand with no damage?
Do we need to put diode at Vin line to prevent any damage at  reverse connection event?

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Hi Takashi-san,

In general we do not recommend this type of condition to occur since there is a potential to damage the internal High Side FET.
One example condition is when there is still charge at the output capacitor and the VIN drops to 0V.
Yes, in order to prevent this condition, a diode at the VIN line need to be placed to prevent a reverse current flowing in the High Side FET.
This way the charge on output capacitor can be discharged slowly by the feedback resistor

    Thanks

  • Hi Hermadi-san,

Thanks for your prompt response on this.
OK, I understood that high side FET might get damage in the condtiion and diode at Vin is needed to prevent any damages.
