BQ2980: Does support reverse charge protection of BQ2980

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2980

Hi,

I'd like know bq2980 how to protect if happen reverse charge condition.

Thanks

  • Hi
The bq2980 by it self does not protect against reverse charger connection. You need to connect a small signal nfet whose gate is is connected to ground and the source and drain accross the gate and source of the charge fet to short them together in the event of a reverse charger connection thereby turning off the charge fet and preventing it from blowing up. see the refernce schematic for a similar device with such a connection

  • Hi Onyx,
I checked bq27750 user's guide which add resistors on CHG and DSG pin. As you know the PCM layout room is narrow in cell phone battery, Is it really necessary to add resistors? And what's output resistance on DOUT pin when DFET OFF?
And about Q2 Gate GND connection, can I connect to Battery -, not Pack-?

    Thanks

  • the bq2980 reference schematic does not have those resistors so they are not needed. Why do you want to connect q2 gate to pack-. if the resistance is not in the data sheet, I wouldn't know it.

    thanks
