BQ51051B: BQ51051B Rx coils selection guideline & FOD settings

Part Number: BQ51051B

Hi,

i'm planning to enable Qi V1.2 compliant wireless charging feature onto my customer's end equipment & there are some questions which i need advice on.

1. Is BQ51051B still an active device & good for new design? Customer end equipment shipping in long number of years (5 years or more)

2. Per reading on similar posts in e2e for BQ51051B it's not recommended to design your own charging Rx coils as there are aplenty of solution to pick up. Are there coil selection guidelines if i were to charge a 1S 4.65V battery @ 0.8A?  (perhaps a few recommendation from Mouser for coil ~15mm x 40mm?)

3. there will be 4mm gap between my Rx & Tx coils which may be occupied by hard plastic housing, is charging at 0.8A still feasible & any additional tuning of FOD required?

4. what are the best kits/EVMs we can use to kickstart initial evaluation? i can only find TIDA-00329 so far. Please advise.

Regards,

Leo

  • Hi Leo
Thanks for contacting me on this opportunity.
1.) The BQ51051B is active along with other BQ510XXX and no plans to NRND. Also no plans to EOL any devices. 5 Years should not be a problems.
2.) I need to get more info on this design and will contact you.
3.) 4mm gap is large but should be OK with the right coil and good alignment. Hard plastic housing will not present a problem.
4.) We have EVMs and other TI designs will discuss with you off line what will work best for this customer.
