BQ24192: Switching Current On Inductor

Part Number: BQ24192

Hi

I am using BQ24192 for one of my application. In datasheet i am able to find Inductor saturation current rating but not able to find out inductor rated current requirement. So i want to know how much current will flow from inductor when battery is present and when battery is not present.

Please let me know how to calculate it.

Thanks

Sagar

  • Hey Sagar,

On the charger, the RMS inductor current will be roughly equivalent to the charge current + the system load current. So ICHG + ISYS ~ IL_RMS.

You may want to consider what your input can handle or what the IINDPM or VINDPM threshold on the charger will be set to. If there is a potential input limitation, I would suggest you based the IL_RMS value on PIN(input power capability) / VSYS_MAX, assuming 100% efficiency.

  • Hi Joel

    Thanks for your reply.

    I have two query-

    1. How much current passes from SW pin to Inductor when power adaptor is charging the battery

    2. When battery is not present.

ICHG + ISYS ~ IL_RMS. Its means during charging all the current goes through Inductor and ICHG current charge the battery via output of inductor --> SYS pin --> Internal BATFET -->BAT. And ISYS current provide the current to the system via Inductor and O/P Capacitor.

    Is my understanding correct?

    Thanks

    Sagar

  • Hey Sagar,

    1. As I said, the IL_RMS when charging will equal the ICHG current + any load current from your system from SYS.

    2. When the battery is not present, and charging is explicitly disabled, IL_RMS will equal the system current pulled from SYS.

    Your understanding is correct.
