TPS63021: datasheet questions

Part Number: TPS63021

Do you have ripple characteristics for this part? Other TI converters typically publish the graph, but not this one.

Does low power enable (PS) pin have to be pulled high for normal operation?

Is VINA supplied internally? The confusion is that the datasheet calls it an Input pin.

What are the output characteristics when EN pin is pulled low? There is some ambiguity in the description.

thank you!

  • Hi Dan,

Thank you for pointing this out, this should be corrected in the next revision of the datasheet. To answer your questions:
    - The output voltage ripple depends on operating mode (buck, boost, buck-boost), power save mode and external components. If you could tell us your specific condition we can do the measurements.
    - PS/SYNC pin should be connected to high (VIN, VINA or any external voltage higher than VIH specified in the datasheet (1.2 V)) or low level voltage (GND or any external voltage lower than VIL specified in the datasheet (0.4 V)). It should not be left open.
    - Internally there is a 100 Ω resistor between VIN and VINA pins, therefore VINA is supplied internally.
    - When EN is pulled low the output goes into high impedance state and the load is disconnected from the input.

    Best regards,
    Milos

  • Thank you for the feedback.

We would appreciate if you could provide the ripple characteristics for the following:

This device will be used in buck-boost operating mode.  The power is derived from the battery (3.7V full charge no load). Input voltage to the power supply will depend on the discharge state of the battery. Output is 3.3V. Minimum load ~ 0.1-0.3 A. Maximum load ~ 0.9-1 A.

  • Hello Dan,

the typical output ripple at Vi=3.7V and Vo=3.3V is:
    13mV at Iout=0.1A
    29mV at Iout=0.3A
    31mV at Iout=1.0A

    regards,
    Julian
