CSD96497Q5MC: Buck converter switcching the load to 12V

I need to design the following buck converter. The converter switches the load to 12V instead of the classical way to GND. (see photo)

This is because of the installation, orientation and polarized current flow requirements of the load.

I need a half bridge power stage with short circuit protection and temperature shut down for both Mosfets.

Can CSD96497Q5MC do it?. If not any recommendation for alternatives?

Converter:

Input Voltage: 12V

Output Voltage: Variable 0.5V..7V

Output current: Variable 0..25A

Switching frequency: any device between 100kHZ..2MHZ

Hi Ferhat,

CSD96497Q5M won't work correctly for this type of reverted buck. It might simply switch in open loop, but it can't cover your 0.5V to 7 Vout range. Besides , none of our integrated PowerStages has individual protection and OTP temperature for each individual FET. Only alternative I see is to build your circuit with a CSD87355Q5 bridge HS and LS FEts and an external driver such as LMG1210. Unfortunately, you'll need individual FET Temperature sensing using LM50 or similar.

Hi Ferhat,

Since your design is not a standard Buck step-down converter , integrated multi-chip smart Power Stages ICs are not available.

For fast current sense across each power FET, I would recommend using a shunt resistor and a fast comparator like TLV3501ADBVR with a few discrete components.
