BQ25887: SNS and protection questions

Part Number: BQ25887

Hi team,

We have some questions for the BQ25887 in below, could you please help?

1. When VBUS is 5V supply, SNS output is 7.4~8.4V?

2. SNS is output to the system input?

3. When no VBUS 5V supply, the battery output is through SNS to the system?

4. Do we have a solution with over-discharge and short circuit protection to use with the BQ25887?

Thank you!

  • Regarding 1, if battery is not attached, yes. if battery is attached then
    a. VBAT<6.4V, then VSNS will be regualted at 6.4V
    b. VBAT>6.4V, then VSNS will follow battery voltage

Regarding 2, sorry for the confusion on the datasheet. SNS is not the system output. BQ25887 does not support power path management. We are working on correct the typos in the 887 DS.

Regarding 3, we do not recommend connect load at SNS pin. System load should be connected directly to battery on BQ25887.

Regarding 4, as system load is not recommended to connect to the SNS pin, we do not have over-discharge protection to battery.
