TLC59581: TIDA-00161 controller documentation

Part Number: TLC59581
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00161

Dear TI experts,

I am currently designing driver for 96 x 96 pixel LED matrix using TLC59581 for my company, and the design is based on TIDA-00161. There will be several boards manufactured, thus I have to make sure that there is no loose ends. I found more documentation on the application user guide :

TLC58581 application user guide with Novastar software.ppt

I would like to request for more detailed documentation for this if possible, because there are several things that I am not yet very sure :

1. For 5 multiplexing through decoder, I found that signal E is using data pin from the receiver card, I would like to know if there is any particular reason to use data32 for signal E ?

2. Could the data output be configured ? e.g. for D1 in the driver, the data comes from data4 or data5 from the receiver card.

3. In TIDA-00161, it mentioned the use of readback function, how is the interface configured for this case ? Is it connecting D1_back, D2_back to any of the data pins from the receiver card ?

4. Is the SCLK_back necessary to use the readback function ?

Thank you and looking forward to your reply.

Regards,

Reno

  • 1, no particular reason, just decode from 5bits to 32 switch signal.

2, It can be configured by the software, the software can distribute the data to the related signal port.

3,Most customer will not use readback function. if it is used, the SDO need to be connected to the MCU, then MCU translate the data, and transfer to the receiver card

    4,Yes

    thanks,

    Regards,

    Shawn.

  • Hi Shawn,

I wanted to further ask :

Q1 and Q2, Are the output pins of the sender card configured automatically by the software ?

Q3, Could you elaborate more on what the MCU does in translating the data ? Is it to read the READSID which store the LOD value, and then send the data to sender to do the caterpillar cancelling ?

Is there further documentation on TIDA-00161 ? Especially on creating the configuration file with the sender card used. I wanted to buy several TLC59581 drivers and assemble it to create LED display module, thus I need to be sure that I am not making big mistakes. Here is my email : raprawoto@gmail.com in case you prefer to move to email. Thank you.

    Regards,

    Reno

  • Hi Reno,

1, it is not the pins, but the data can be distributed by the software.

2, MCU is used as the protocol transferring, all the data from SDOs need to go to MCU first and then to the FPGA.

3, Sorry we have no more documents.

    thanks!

    Shawn.
