TPS7A16: TPS7A1601 as current source for LED chain

Genius 12705 points
Part Number: TPS7A16
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP38693-ADJ

Hello Team,

can TPS7A1601 be used as a current source for 5...10mA and a voltage of 50V similar to the LED schematics shown in TIDU922A?

Can you provide the schematics for such an application, please?

Are input and output capacitors also required for this use case?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Hans

  • Hi Hans,

The 50 V would be the input of the TPS7A16 correct?

While it should be possible to apply the same concepts from TIDU922A to the TPS7A16, please keep in mind that we have not attempted it ourselves and recommend prototyping. The main difference will be that the reference voltage for TPS7A16 is 1.193 V; therefore, when calaculating the resistors 1.193 V should be used instead of the 1.25 Vadj of LP38693-ADJ.

The input and output capacitors are used to ensure stability of the linear regulator. As such, they are required.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
