LM5115: How to select current sense resistor

Part Number: LM5115

Hi

We want to use LM5115 to design a 12V input , 3.3V/8A and 1.0V/8A output power.

Reference specification design, three 0.012 ohm resistors are used in parallel.

Is there a calculation method of current sense resistor?

Thanks.

Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

You will want to size this resistor so that the voltage across the sense resistor is at 45mV (typ.) when you want the device to enter current limit protection. In other words, for your normal operating current range the voltage across the sense resistor should be less than 45mV (typ.). The range for this voltage can be found in the EC table - 37mV to 53mV.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Best Regards,
    Katelyn
