LM9061-Q1: LM9061-Q1

Part Number: LM9061-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5069, TPS24720

Hello Sir,

1.) I am using LM9061-Q1 high side gate driver in one of my applications. I have done a calculation for worst case scenario and I am switching a mosfet with this high side driver.

I am having a maximum drain to source voltage drop of 40 millivolts, after which the protection comparator will get activated and the driver has to be in latch off mode.

For this application, I have taken Rthreshold = 560 ohms and Rsense = 500 ohms. Is these values will be okay for making the gate driver to latch off ?

Also is it necessary to use Rsense resistor?

2.) Do i need to provide any overtemperature protection for the mosfet?

Because anyways the driver will protect it from overcurrent protection.

  • Hi Harish,

    Welcome to E2E!
What is your operating voltage, max voltage, load current ? Can you also share your application use case and end product. I just want to make sure that you picked the right device.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
  • The Operating voltage will be 12V to 14V DC.

The mosfet breakdown voltage is of 40V.

The load current I am going to switch is near about 30 amps(continuous current).

The load being switched can be an inductive load.

I think the calculation with the mosfet which I have done is okay but I just want to know that the values for resistors which I specified is alright for enabling the protection comparator or not.

Also, is overtemperature protection will be needed?

  • Hi Harish,

Your calculations are correct. The over current protection takes care of FET protection, however, LM9061-Q1 does not provide precise over current protection as it relays on FET Rds_on which varies widely with operating temperature.

If non-Q1 device is acceptable for your use, Please look at TPS24720 (up to 18V) or LM5069 (up to 80V)

    Best Regards,
