TPS23751: How much is the efficiency when output is 12V@2A ?

Part Number: TPS23751
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23752, , TPS23754EVM-383, PMP11254

Dear all

The efficiency of my board is 80% when output is 12V@2.1A, and when output is 12V @1A.

I have some questions about this:

       1. In the datasheet, "Figure 29. TPS23751 and TPS23752 Light Load Efficiency versus Mode", there has up to 85% efficiency  at 0.9A, Could you show me the curve of efficiency at output from 1A to 2A ?

       2. What factors affect efficiency ? Could you show me how to improve conversion efficiency ?

  • Hi Went Cao,

    1. The VFO mode is only effective at lighter loads. So at mid to full load, the efficiency will be the same since the IC will switch from VFO mode to PWM mode.

    2. I recommend looking at PMP11254. This is a high efficiency 12V solution. Any higher efficiency will need to be an active clamp forward like TPS23754EVM-383. The key to high efficiency is the primary FET selection, low leakage transformer, and a secondary diode with a low forward voltage.
