TPS82084: Large overshoot at down transient timing

Part Number: TPS82084

Hi Team,

Let me ask one quick question.

Could you tell me the reason why TPS82084 shows the large overshoot at down transient timing?

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Hi Onawa-san,

This is the typical operation for any converter with PFM mode. When the (3A) load goes away, the inductor still carries 3A. This energy must go into the output cap, where it increases the voltage. The IC does not sink this energy, as it is in PFM.

This is easily reduced by increasing the output cap.
