TPS61291: TPS61291 3V3 with 3.6 Li-Battery

I would like to use the TPS61291 with a LiMnO2 Battery (3V full, 2V near empty). The Device will deliver 3.3V for the Main Application. The battery type we would use, is also available as LiSoCl2, which has a starting voltage of 3.6V, similar to Li-Ion Battery packs.  Since it is possible (but not recommoend) to insert such a battery, it would be bad if the device gets destroyed. All devices that are on the 3.3V output have a maximum rating of >4V, so they would not be a problem.

Is it a critical problem if the TPS61291 would be powered with 3.6V when Vout is 3.3V, or would it just "condcut" and forward the voltage?. I am aware, that its possible to switch to bypass, but this is only available when the MCU has already started, to determine that the voltage is 3.6V and switch to bypass. A few milliseconds the Regulator would be on boost configuration?

    What's the schedule of your project?
    If time available, I will recommend you to have a look at TPS61099. It has the down mode, and the converter could supply when Vout little lower than Vin. And this function doesn't need MCU to control. I believe it's much suitable for your application.
