BQ24725A: Can the clocking speed run faster than 100kHz?

Part Number: BQ24725A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25703A, BQ24780S

Hi BCP Team,

Posting this Q on my customer's behalf.

"We are struggling with a I2C data rate and probably need to run the I2C faster than 100KHz but the bq SMBus is limited to 100KHz.

Is it possible to specify this higher? I guess I am hoping that the 100KHz is simply the number out of SMBus spec and not the IC’s capability."

Thank you,

Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

100 kHz is the maximum clock frequency.

How high will your customer's frequency be? TI has several I2C chargers that have a max frequency of 400 kHz. For example, please take a look at the BQ25703A, which has several similarities with the BQ24780S (1-4 cell multi-chemistry battery charger, max charge current of 8 A, etc.).

    Best regards,

    Angelo
