LM5170-Q1: Charging Function

Part Number: LM5170-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5170

There are two batteries considered to be implemented on the e-scooter system. One is 12V, the other one is 48V. Customer would like to use LM5170 to do the bidirectional buck-boost to charging each other. Is LM5170 able to achieve this function? Or it needs external MCU to implement this Charging control function? any TIDA design? Very thanks.

  • Hi Brian,

    Thanks for proposing the LM5170.

The LM5170 is suitable for bidirectional DC/DC converters for 48V/12V dual battery systems.

Section 9.2 of the LM5170 d/s depicts the typical application example for a 60A, dual phase bidirectional converter for a dual battery 48V, 12V system. The charging control can be determined by MCU.

This reference design operates within your input and output voltage ranges so this will be a good starting point: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tiducs2b/tiducs2b.pdf

    Thanks,

    Richard
