TPS254900-Q1: Internal power switch in client mode

Part Number: TPS254900-Q1

Hi team,

I learned from datasheet "The internal power switch is OFF to block current flow from OUT to IN" in client mode. But since there exist a body diode of MOSFET, why doesn't  the current flow from OUT to IN through the body diode? What will happen in CDP mode if I connect the output(OUT,D-,D+,GND) to a computer USB port? What kind of impact will the 5V voltage from computer USB port have on the input of TPS254900?

BR

  • Hi Arie,

To be notice that , the IN and OUT pin mosfet internal body diode haven't been connect to the ground.  We have put a special method to deal with the body diode for the internal FET. There not any current can flow back from OUT to IN during the internal FET is  power off .

If in the CDP the output pin connect to the VBUS (5V) , two different DCDC converter output one from computer the another from tps254900 will connect together . It may cause one of them work not stable but I don't think will case same damage . Any way  this is special case will not happen in the tps254900 in client mode.
