TPS65320D-Q1: Switching frequency control.

Part Number: TPS65320D-Q1

Hi,

I would like to create "dithering" by adjusting the BUCK switching frequency from external source ( MCU) .

Will the BUCK stay stable while changing its switching frequency dynamically ?

What is the minimal time interval between two changes ?

Thanks,

Ofer

  • Ofer,

Changing the clock frequency by using an external clock source is covered in the data sheet. This device requires additional components between the TPS65320D and the controller. Dithering however is beyond the scope of the data sheet and has not been tested by TI.

Read these sections in the data sheet:

    7.3.1.12 Selecting the Switching Frequency

7.3.1.13 How to Interface to RT/CLK Pin

We do have customers that use this technique, so to answer your question, yes it can be done, but you will have to test and certify the stability of this IC, and the maximum time interval between changes.

A good starting point is greater than 100ns, however please test this to be sure.

  • Thank you Gordon,

I do the tests on the EVM .
