TLC5940: Some questions for IR Driver

Part Number: TLC5940

Dear Pros,

There are several questions about the driver IC of TLC5940:

1. TLC5940 is an SPI interface, can we don‘t  use the GSCLK signal?

2. What is the difference between dot correction and grayscale control? Is it DC mode and GS mode respectively?

3. Difference between DC connecting to EEPROM and register

  • Hi, Cris,

         1. The GSCLK signal must be used to provide reference clock for grayscale PWM control.

         2. The dot correction adjusts the brightness deviations of LEDs connected to the output channels OUT0 to OUT15, which is mainly aimed to set the white balance.

The grayscale control adjust the brightness of each channel OUTn using a PWM control scheme, which can achieve 4096 different brightness steps.

        3. The EEPROM is mainly used to store dot correction data so that you don't need to send the dot correction data after powering up every time.
