UCC28063: PFC for high AC frequency

Part Number: UCC28063
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28050

Hi, Team,

My customer is looking for a Transition-Mode PFC Controller which can support 400Hz or 800Hz, 120W and AC85~115V. I have 2 questions.
1. Can UCC28063 be used for the above condition?
2. Is it ok just to use GDA, not to use GDB?

Best Regards,

  • Hello,

If  you are doing single phase transition mode PFC TI has a UCC28050/1 devices that will be able to accomplish this.  However, there has not been too much work at TI done in regards to high frequency designs, however, this device might work.

I attended a conference and it was presented that the main issue with high frequency designs is that there is a phase shift between input voltage and input current caused by the input filter that could cause distortions.  There was technique that was call current feedforward that fixes this issue.  The following link will get you to a paper that describes how to apply this technique.  https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=1603665&tag=1

Thankyou for choosing TI for your power supply design,

  • Thanks for your advise. I'm checking with the customer for this. I will post a new question if we need to discuss.
