BQ27621-G1: Inaccurate RSOC Values

Part Number: BQ27621-G1

Hello,

I have a customer that is using the attached Honcell’s Li-Ion rechargeable battery with Model Number: HCP404265ZC. They are having some accuracy issues with the reported RSOC values and I wanted to check with you all to see what else I should be asking. Looking at other E2E posts so far my ideas / questions are:

  • What are the nominal and peak discharge rates?  I am trying to see if they have a large dynamic load that could be affecting the accuracy.

  • I have seen that the gauge will report inaccurate SOC numbers right after initialization if the battery is not in a relaxed state (no load current). If you are not able to initialize the gauge with a relaxed battery it will take some time for the gauge to converge to the correct SOC values. Are you able to initialize the gauge with a relaxed battery?
  • Another thought, have you enabled the SOC smoothing feature? It’s in Operation Configuration B register, bit2. This is covered in Section 6.4.1.5.2 page 31 of bq27621-G1 TRM below:
  • It doesn't look like it is related to scaling with a small cell application either since this cell is 1370mAh.

Let me know if you have any ideas on what could be causing their issue and what else I should be asking to help get to the root cause.

John
