LM5050-1-Q1: can this part be used for OVP

Hi,

can LM5050 be used as an OVP switch? - the application requires 140C and this seems to be the only power switch  controller capable of the extended temperature (the Q0 vresion).

    Hi Alberto,

    With LM5050 MOSFET is oriented such that its source pin is at the input and drain is output. Here even though MOSFET is turned off, body diode would still conduct.

    LM5050 cannot be used as an OVP switch because of it gate drive. External MOSFET is turned off by making Vgs =0V, where source is the input terminal.

    For OVP, MOSFET orientation has to be flipped to cutof of the power path during OVP.

    If the MOSFET orientation is flipped, LM5050 tries to turn off the MOSFET by making Vgd =0V instead of Vgs=0v due to flipped orientation.

    This means MOSFET would remain on, even when LM5050 is driven to be off.

    LM5050 cannot be used as an OVP switch.

    We recommend to used LM5060 instead of LM5050.
