BQ24193: bq24193 battery management issue

Part Number: BQ24193

Hello,

We had a problem with bq24193 BMS IC . bq24193 supports input voltage range of 3.9V to 17V . But  this IC is not working for 15.1V input with 1A load .  At this input the  IC is damaging.how to solve this issue?

  • Prasad,

Could you please send a scope capture with VBUS, BTST, and SW? I am wondering if switching noise spikes could be damaging your IC.

Could you also describe your setup? What are you using to power VBUS and what are you using to represent a load?

Finally, is this issue repeatable on our EVM?

    Thanks,

    Ricardo

  • Hi Ricardo,

we are connecting load of 1A at the output and we do not EVM.

Could you please let me know the thermal considerations and can we cutoff the battery when battery discharges to 3.5V with input supply OFF.

Please find the below circuit of bq24193.

    Thanks and regards,

    Prasad

  • Prasad,

Are you seeing a NTC fault on REG09[2:0] or a thermal shutdown fault?

The device does monitor its junction temperature and performs thermal regulation and shutdown according to section 8.3.5.2 of the d/s. The thermistor network monitors the battery temperature and follows the JEITA profile as described in section 8.3.3.4.1 of the d/s.

You are able to turn off BATFET off using a host controller via I2C on REG07[5], but you would need external circuitry such as a voltage supervisor to determine when to turn off the FET.

    Thanks,

    Ricardo

  • Hi,Ricardo

Can you please share us I2C register configuration and programming guide.

    Thanks and regards,

    Prasad

  • Hi Ricardo,

What is the hardware recquired for designing Battery voltage supervisory circuitry.can you please share us the design of it.

    Thanks and regards,

    Prasad

  • Prasad,

I suggest you read this blog post to learn more about the voltage supervisor ICs. After deciding your topology, I would create a new thread in the voltage supervisor forum to get a recommendation on a part from them.

The drivers for the bq2419X device can be found in this repository

    Thanks,

    Ricardo
