TPS54218: Questions about Frequencies Foldback during Start-Up

Part Number: TPS54218

Good Day,

I know that there is a frequency foldback protection feature which reduce the switching frequency during start-up. I have some questions related to the frequency foldback protection

- Are there graphs or details available regarding how much is the frequency reduced during start up for different steady state frequencies

- What are the methods to control the amount of frequency reduced

- What are the factors affecting the frequency reduced

- Is it possible to remove the frequency foldback protection

Thank you for helping me out.

  • Hello,

Frequency foldback is a feature in charge of reducing the inductor current during startup or during an over-current condition. It is implemented to operate TPS54218 in safe conditions, it cannot be removed.

The Frequency shift topic (7.3.12) in the datasheet describes how this features behaves. You can also see in Figure 7, what is the correlation between the Vsense voltage and the frequency shift. It then can tell how much the frequency is reduced during start up.

    Thank you very much!

    Best Regards,

    Dorian
