Here is one way to calculate the maximum case temperature, Tcase(max) = Tjunction(max)- RθJC(top)*Pdissipation. where Pdissipation = (Vin-Vout)*Iout.
Based on the information in the datasheet, Tjunction(max) =160, RθJC(top) = 52.2°C/W. Your customer uses LP38693MP-5.0/NOPB, Vout is equal to 5V. You will need to know what the input voltage and load are to trigger thermal shutdown from your customer to compute the maximum case temperature.
