DC Voltage Compare and Select Circuit

Hi,

I am looking to design a DC controller circuit which takes in two different DC voltage levels. I would like to compare this voltages and output the higher voltage at all times. What IC or PIC do you suggest which would work best for this?

Thank you!

Regards,

Manee

  • Hi Shankar,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Please look at TPS25942. You can use it in ORing or power muxing configuration to meet your requirement.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Best regards,

    Rakesh

  • Hi Rakesh,

Thank you for the reply. Sorry for the delayed response as I was looking in to the TPS25942.

I saw from the datasheet that a circuit can be designed for power muxing by integrating two TPS25942. Would like to know how do i calculate or determine the resistor, capacitor and other associated values? Is there a software provided for this?

I was also looking into the TPS25942EVM. It says in the User Guide that it can be configured as active O ring by 'depopulating R8'. Does this mean that I have to remove R8 for it to operate as Auto Power Mux?

Appreciate your feedback in order for me to carry on with my design.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Manee

  • Hi Manee,

Correct. Depopulating R8 sets the EVM in Auto Power Mux mode i.e., ORing which allows the highest of Vin1 & Vin2 to feed the load.

We don't have tool for power mux configuration, but we have generic tool which can be used to calculate UVLO, OVLO, current limit resistors etc. The design tool is available at http://www.ti.com/product/TPS25942A/toolssoftware

    Best regards, Rakesh
