BQ24123: STAT1 blinking continuously if battery fully charged

Part Number: BQ24123

Hello,

We have a 2 cells battery pack connected to a bq24123 evaluation board.
Battery detection and charge is going well as long as the battery is not fully charged.
But, at the end of the charge cycle, or if a fully charged battery is connected, then STAT1 is blinking continuously and STAT2 is off.
The technical bq24123 documentation does not even explain the fact that STAT1 is blinking.
Does somebody have an explanation or a workaround?

  • Hi,

Can you provide a scope shot of at least 2 blinking pulses, showing STAT1, V(IN) and V(BAT)?  What is the value of your termination current?  If high ITERM and your resistance to battery is high, it is possible that the charger is terminating when cell is not fully charged due to ITERM*Rbattery drop.  When ITERM stops, the voltage at BAT then drops and charge resumes.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Thank you Jeff, it is a good catch.
The end of charge current detection was too high for our battery pack.
Every 1.2 second the charge was starting again because the battery pack was never fully charged..
    Increasing RISET2  fixed the problem.

    Regards.
