BQ24210: Doubt about a battery charger IC for a solar-powered IoT application

Part Number: BQ24210
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25505,

Hello!

I need a solar Li-Po/Li-Ion battery charger for an IoT application. Previously I was using the BQ25505, but the power requirements of the charger increased to something like 1.7W. The BQ25505 can handle a maximum of 0.5W. That's why I'm thinkin of using the BQ24210. But I have some doubts:

  1. If I use, for example a 2W, 5V solar cell in a clouded day, with current consumption, the voltage may drop to something lower than 3.5V, the minimum recomended operating conditions. Does it mean, the IC is not able to charge in this situation?
  2. I understand the MPPT (maximum power point tracking) used to increase the efficiency of the power extraction. But this IC uses what in the datasheet is called DPM (dynamic power management), with no mention to MPPT. For what I understood, it is only a limitation in the voltage drop of high impedance sources, with no regard to increasing the efficiency of power extraction. Is it right?
  3. I will power the rest of my circuit from the battery, but the BQ24210 has a load mode to power something from the input using the battery. For what I understood, the CI automatically enters this mode in case there is no input power to charge the battery, and it has a quiescent current of up to 80uA. Is there a way to avoid this consumption?

Thank you in advance!
