LM5041: Can I run with Vin = <15V?

Part Number: LM5041

The specified Vin range is 15V to 100V, but the data sheet implies that Vin can be less than this with some additional design by the user (refer to the "High Voltage Regulator" section).

In my application, the input voltage can be as low as 10.5V.

Can you advise how I may use the LM5041 with Vin = 10.5V?

Thanks.

  • Hello Fraser,

If you look at Figure 4 in the data sheet you can see the relationship between VIN and VCC:

The "knee" on the VCC curve shows the 9V required on VCC to enable the LM5041.

At this point VIN is about 12V

However the data for this curve is taken for a typical part with an Icc current of only 3mA.

For reliable startup behaviour TI recommends that the minimum input voltage of VIN is 15V

It is not recommended that Vin be operated from a 10.5V supply.

    Regards

    John
