BQ25606: bq25606

Part Number: BQ25606
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24072, BQ24278, , BQ25970

I use BQ24072 in one of my design with LiPo Battery,

But now I have a new design with  LiPo battery and the maximum current will be ~2-2.5A,

I looking for same interface and functionality

Which battery charger do you recommend?

something like bq24278, but I can see it's Not Recommended For New Designs.

maybe bq25606?

  • Ido,

BQ25606 is an very good option. It is a standalone single cell battery charger with power path. The VSET pin can program the batter voltage to 4.2V, 4.35V and 4.4V. The voltage range covers the 4.2V of BQ24072 and the required charging current range.

  • Do you have a charger which do not need an inductor and a capacitor?

  • Hey Ido,

For charging at 2-2.5A, you will absolutely need a charger with an inductor and capacitor, also known as as switched-mode charger.

A linear charger (only uses integrated power FET) will likely burn at that current level. At the very least, the efficiency will be extremely poor.

The only other alternative is to use something like the BQ25970 which only uses capacitor. However, this requires that the input source/adapter be a programmable power supply. Otherwise, it will not function as intended.

Eric's suggestion is still the recommended option for what you want to achieve.
