Hello team,

We’re looking at using TPS259530 for their design. They tested the eval board and it all looks reasonable except I get one result I don’t expect. If the device is started into a short circuit, one doesn’t get the programmed Ilimit but gets something much lower. This is evident in Fig 34 and 36 in the datasheet as well. Fig 50 suggests that Ilimit would be reached.

I can’t seem to find anything in the datasheet mentioning this mode. The customer would like to know how the IC decides to enter and leave this mode. Do we have any documentation on this?

Hi Errol,

The current limit circuit of TPS2595 is designed such that when the output voltage is less than 1V, the current limit is foldback to a lower value. This is to reduce the current limit during short circuit conditions. So, the behavior you observe is normal and is expected.
