PTH12030W: PTH12030W heats up seriously under no load

Part Number: PTH12030W

Dear colleague,

Our custoemr is using PTH12030WAH, but when it has no load current, PTH12030WAH heats up seriously, can't use hand touch.

Schematic as below:

Could you please help us check it?

Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Rock,

The PTH12030WAH at no load is about 35°C above room temperature; that is normal behavior for this device.
This is due to all of the losses across the device. Majority in regards to the: Switching losses to remain in regulation, core of inductor, and the current circulating.
Keep in mind, this is a dual-phase topology, therefore, all losses are double.

(I reviewed the schematic. It looks okay)

    Regards,
    Alejandro
