TPS65023B: PMIC for MCMIMX7D5EVM10SD with additional power rail at 3.8-4V

Part Number: TPS65023B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65218D0

Hi team,

Can you recommend a PMIC for MCMIMX7D5EVM10SD with an additional power rail at 3.8-4V compared to TPS65023B?

Thank you,

Franz

  • Hi Franz,

Currently Applications Engineer supporting this device is out of office and comes back by mid of this week. Is it ok if he provides the feedback once he is back or is this very urgent?

    Regards,

    Murthy

  • Hi Murthy,

    Midweek is early enough.

    Thanks,

    Franz

  • Franz,

    What is the input voltage?

Why would the customer want to generate 3.8-4V in addition to the other rails in the system?

Can you provide a power tree or block diagram showing the preferred power rails for the system?

  • Here is a copy of the i.MX7D part number decoder. According to this, the "5" adds 2x CAN, "E" is extended temperature range, "VM" is the larger package type, "10" is 1.0GHz core frequency, "S" is with security enabled, and "D" is for silicon rev. 1.3

As far as I can tell, the orderable part number does not change the number of rails required by the processor.

The TPS65023B will allow you to adjust the output voltages of DCDC1-3 up to the input voltage, VINDCDCx. However, you will not have any spare rails to generate 3.8-4V because they are all used according to this App Note. The other option is to use the TPS65218D0, which has a EEPROM register map that can be programmed to match the requirements of the system. But the TPS65218D0 does not have a setting for 3.8-4V as an output for DCDC1-4 or LDO1 (max 3.4V).

The best option I can think of would be to have an external discrete DC-DC or LDO regulator that generates 3.8-4V
