BQ25892: How to stop charging over 45°C

Part Number: BQ25892
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25895

Dear e2e support,

My customer is trying to program the charge current, in conjunction with his battery constraints as follow:

- 0.1C max for 0-10°C

- 0.2C or 0.5Cmax for 10-45°C

- no charge over 45°C

Seeing our datasheet, paragraph 9.2.7.5.1, we don't find any solution to change Ichg between T3 (45°C) and T5 (60°C) value, nor using an I²C command. Could you confirm?

Do you see any other alternative to avoid any charge current, and comply with their battery requirements at 45°C?

Regards,

  • Hi TISL,

The BQ25892 has JEITA temp charge profile.  Can you use host software and the charger's ADC to periodically measure the TS voltage, convert to a temperature and then disable charge when the temp is 45C?  Alternatively, the BQ25895 member of the family has standard temp profile with charge disable at 45C.  Keep in mind it has different startup, input-current limit detect and different OTG operation than BQ25892.

    Regards,

    Jeff
