BQ2970: What happen if battery polarity is installed reversely?

Dear team,

The battery will be external in my customer's application which means that their end customers could choose and install battery by themself. So my customer would like to know will BQ2970 be damaged if the battery polarity is reverse like the following picture? Thank you.

Hi Polly,

The 330 Ohm resistor on the BAT pin will protect from reverse current in this event.

Dear Shawn,

Thanks for your reply. I know 330ohm resistor could reduce reverse current, but how about negative voltage on BAT pin? The reverse battery connection will keep for very long time, so it should have negative DC voltage on BAT pin. Will BAT pin of BQ2970 be damaged on this event? Thank you.

Hi Polly,

Per our Absolute Maximum Table in the datasheet, the voltage on the BAT pin should not go below -0.3V. If it does, the device will be damaged.
