BQ34Z100-G1: BQ34Z100-G1, Hall sensor

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100

I would like to know, if it is possible to measure current with bq34z100-G1 IC using hall sensor instead of shunt resisitor for high current applications.

  • Hi Anton,

The device looks at the voltage across the SRN and SRP pins and then with the known value of the sense resistor, calculates the current. So no, it is not possible to use a hall sensor.

    thanks

    Onyx

  • Dear Mr. Ahiakwo,

    Thank you for your answer.

But is it possible to measure battery capacity without current measurement? I mean, for high current applications it is not good idea to use shunt resistor , it is better to use hall sensor. And how to make gas gauge in such system? (Charge current about 30 A, discharge current nominal about 200 A, peak about 500 A).

  • Hi, Anton

bq34z100's ADC  is designed to read current from the shunt resistor, if other sensor is to be used, the interface with bq34z100 ADC input circuit should be modified to accommodate the output range and impedance of the sensor.
