UCC28019: Figure 28 D1 parallel diode

Part Number: UCC28019

Hi Team,

I have a question about D1 in datasheet figure 28.
in figure 28, there is D1/1N5406 in parallel with L1/C064154LF and D2/CSD04060.

Question here is how does this D1 work for this circuit and what is advantage/disadvantage when there is/is not D1?

Regards,
Kai

  • Hello Kai,

The diode D1 pre-charges the output capacitor before the controller starts up.

With D1 the output charges up to the peak of the AC input.

This means there is less stress on the MOSFET and boost diode

It also means that the startup time is faster.

    Regards
